Lizard on the loose is written by Mary Small. It is a chapter book about a kid called Henry. Henry is longing for a pet. He thinks he'd like a hamster or a dog, but his parents tell him there's no way. So when he gets the chance, he buys a blue-tongued lizard from a school chum. Everything's OK until Mum finds out, but by that time the lizard has had babies!
It is an interesting book because it is the sort of thing that all kids hope for when they are younger. I found it cool because I never knew that hamsters weren't allowed in Australia so that I something I learned in that book. In the book it suggests that kids need to let wild animals into there natural habitat and not to keep them in a box or under there bed, because it just upsets them and makes them feel uncomfortable.
My opinion on the book is that the title is not good because once you read the first couple of pages where it explains how he wants a pet, the title gives away that he is going to end up getting a lizard and then loosing it. Overall I enjoyed the book and would like to read other books like that because they relate to kids our age or younger and that keep you entertained it doesn't have long boring bits it is just a wonderful full on story.
What an excellent review, Nicole. I thought your comment about the title was very insightful. This might be a book to recommend to some of our more reluctant readers in our class I'm thinking. Always include a pic of the book cover in your review.
