Christmas

Other religions while christmas is happening...

Hanukka - it is also known as the festival of lights, or the festival of rededication. It is an eight day Jewish holiday, beginning on the 25th day of Kislev, which can occur in the very late november or early december. The festival is observed in Jewish homes by the kindling of lights on each of the festivals eight nights. The holiday is called Hanukka meaning 'dedication' because it marks the re-dedication of the temple after it's desecrati on under Antiochus IV.

Eid - it is a islamic holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting. Fitr means to break the fast, and therefore symbolizes the breaking of the fast period.

Yule - Yule is the winter solstice celebration of the Scandinavian Norse mythology and Germanic pagans. In Neopaganism, this celebration is largely reconstructed to various extents by various groups. In Wicca, a form of the holiday is observed as one of the eight solar holidays, or sabbats, where Yule is celebrated on the winter solstice in the northern hemisphere, circa December 21, and in the southern hemisphere, circa June 21.

Kwanzaa -Kwanzaa (or Kwaanza) is a week-long Pan-African festival primarily honoring African-American heritage. It is observed from December 26 to January 1 each year, almost exclusively in the United States of America. Kwanzaa consists of seven days of celebration, featuring activities such as candle-lighting and pouring of libations, and culminating in a feast and gift-giving. It was founded by Ron Karenga, and first celebrated from December 26, 1966, to January 1, 1967. Karenga calls Kwanzaa the African American branch of "first fruits" celebrations of classical African cultures.

Santa letter

Dear Santa,

Christmas comes once a year, it is where all of the kids around the world wake up to surprises wrapped up in colorful paper. Only another 2 weeks until christmas and I haven't even thought about getting ready. I would love to have a really tall christmas tree covered in decoration, surrounded by thousands of presents that you delivered to me.

For christmas there are many things that I would like. A new school bag, a new training bag, some clothing, a surfboard and lollies. A School bag for the new year with plenty of space for the big heavy books that I would have to carry around.
A new training bag as my other one broke and my old one that I have at home has hardly any room. Come clothing because I only have winter clothing and it is summer, plus I am growing and all of my clothes are getting to small.
I need a surfboard because this term I have been doing surfing training and I need to buy my own one so I can continue to do surfing but in my own time.

I can't wait to christmas and to get all my gifts christmas isn't just a time for presents it is a time to get together with your family and have a fun time.

From Nicole.

Third World Countries

A third world country is a country that has not been fully developed. By that I mean there government and there way of life.
This is a world map and indicates whether the countries are a first, second or third world country. Everyone is one of them. New Zealand is a first world country.  They judge first, second and third worlds on: poverty, high birth rates, and economic dependence on the advanced countries. Africa is a third world country because they are very poor and struggle to get water and proper shelter. They nearly have to travel an hour to get water and it is not even fresh water. They have very small meals as well.

45 minutes inquiry

….a rose by any other name….

A rose by another name would smell as sweet. This quote is from William Shakespeare, in the movie Romeo and Juliet, in act 2 scene 2. The meaning of A rose by another name would smell as sweet, means that if something was called something else it would still have the same characteristics. The movie was made in 1591.

This is what Juliet said in the movie where she said A rose by another name is still a rose.
'Tis but thy name that is my enemy;
Thou art thyself, though not a Montague.
What's Montague? it is nor hand, nor foot,
Nor arm, nor face, nor any other part
Belonging to a man. O, be some other name!
What's in a name? that which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet;
So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call'd,
Retain that dear perfection which he owes
Without that title. Romeo, doff thy name,
And for that name which is no part of thee
Take all myself.

The quote shows that no matter what you are called it doesn’t change the way you act or your characteristics.

45 minutes Inquiry (cargo logs)

This is part of the Tauranga Port the port of Tauranga ships of logs in cargo ships. The port is at the mount and is the only natural harbour from Auckland to Wellington. 1,600 cargo ships visit a year, and the port is open 24/7 365 days a year. The port of Tauranga is the biggest port in the country and has 113 hectors of land. Most of the trees are pine trees they come from the south island and a few from the north island, every tree you cut down you have to plant another three, but the tree has to be 20 years old to be allowed to cut it down. The first cargo ship filled with logs was to Japan it was 158 tonnes.

The logs stay at the port for three days and then gets shipped of to Asia. Every day they process about 63 thousand logs from all around New Zealand. The logs get there on trains and log trucks. The logs are stacked in triangles to prevent them from falling down.  The logs get built into fences and materials. Every year about 3.6 million trees go through the port. We don't get many logs shipped to us but when we do it is generally to just build something and then ship it off again.

Before the Maori's and Europeans came to New Zealand, 80% of New Zealand was forest, but now because we cut down trees and send them off to other countries our land is getting less and less trees. The lumber jack earn about 32,00 dollars a year, and work 42 hours. In the port of tauranga there are exactly 186 Permanent staff.

Better uniform

Design a new uniform for Tauranga Intermediate School.

What five aspects do you need to consider when selecting the new uniform?
The cost
How comfortable it is
Suitable for kids our age
School colours
Good for doing lots of different things

Use the internet to select the uniform items.
These Canterbury track pants would be good for the uniform they are suitable for girls and boys. These pants are a bit expensive though at a price of $80 - $100 dollars each.

In summer we could also use these shorts they are also suitable for sporting but once again they are a little bit expensive at a price of $30 - $50 dollars.

For shirts we can continue to wear the same shirts and stay in house colours.

For shoes we could wear nike running shoes, because they are suitable for fitness and they look cool. These shoes can be $50-$200 dollars though, but you can get them off of certain sites really cheap

Curling 45 minute Inquiry

Curling is a sport where a curling stone also known as a granite stone, slides across the ground towards a target, you get points on where the curling stone lands. The curling brush sweeps the surface in front of the stone. It is also used for balancing, when delivering the stone. There are two teams, each player takes turns pushing the heavy polished Curling ball across the ground.

Curling was invented in 1541 in the medieval Scotland's, but it was just a stone on ice and they rolled it at a target. Curling has been in the Olympics since 1998, they do female and male tournaments. Curling is similar to bowls, shuffle board and boule.

The curling stones weigh around 18 to 20 kilograms, and the curling arena is about 146 to 150 feet long. The curling stone has a handle on it so that it you can grip onto it.

For clothing you have to wear, pants and a top, but the pants are made stretchy so that is easier to bend down to push the curling stone. The shoes are like athletic shoes but they have a curved sole for balancing. You have to wear gloves and it improves your grip for when pushing the curling stone. They also have stopwatches to time how fast the stones are.

A movie Review

The sisters keeper.

The sisters keeper is about a girl who gets cancer, the parents decide the only way is to have a donor child. The donor child is forced to give parts of her body to her sister so that her sister can reman alive. At one stage when the donor child is older she can chose not to give parts anymore, but no she wants to stop giving parts of her body to her sister now, she wants to be able to do things by herself, and live her on life. Or is it something else?

This movie is a wonderful movie for a family to watch together, the movie is very sad and means something. It is based on a true story. The director of this movie is Nick Cassavetes. The movie came out on June 26 2009. I recommend watching this movie it is one of the most sad movies I have ever seen.

Girls College Orentation

Today Tauranga Girls College had there orientation day so the year eight girls went to the college to get shown around. When we arrived there we sat down in the gymnasium and Mrs Ferguson talked to us a bit about the school and the expectations. We then got split up into lines and we went around the school. They showed us were everything was and told us a bit about how the school works, and what happens. We then went into a room and the teacher talked to us about the stationary and the houses. We then got given booklets, and made our way to the buses and headed back to school.

Five sences

As I drove down the motorway looking into the distance I could see what used to be a forest now just a big black sploge surrounded by big tall buildings. I looked around only to see cars waiting to get into town. I can hear peoples horns,  they are all in a rush to get there I don't know why there is nothing there anyway, the ticking from my watch is drive me insane it keeps on reminding me of how much time we have left, until the whole world is like this. I can smell oil everywhere it is actually very sickening. As I peer down to my left I look at the air freshener and holed it close to my face so that I can smell something fresh and not deadly.  I can feel my hands starting to sweat as I grip onto the handle bars tightly, what has happened to this world. I can taste the oil fumes surrounding me as if I was the only thing that wanted.

Daily blog post

As annoying as the sound of a bee flying around you.
As peaceful as waves crashing on the beach while you lie in the sand.
As lucky as getting a letter on your one hundredth birthday
As hot as an oven cooking a roast.
As industrious as a person who works 12 hours a day.
As clueless a person without a brain.
As brilliant as a fireman saving thousands of peoples lives.
As colorful as the cookie pads sitting in the corner of the class room.

Dialouge

behavior

"Nicole how do you think you behavior has been this year?" Miss Campbell asked.

"Umm I think it has been good, but I may have gotten off task a couple of times." Nicole explained.

"Yes you have worked well this year, and I agree you have gotten off task a couple of times, but you still work very hard and achieve the best you can." Explained Miss Campbell. "When you get off task all you need is a little reminder and then you are hard working again."

"Yeah that is probably true, all I need is a reminder to get on task."

Year 8 final assembly

"Ok in week ten on the tuesday we have the year eight final assembly you guys have to be on your best behavior. It will go on for a while but that doesn't mean you can just sit there and talk, the assembly will be a bit like the year seven one so you know the expectations from last year. Are there any questions?
Yes you." Mrs Mills asked.

"Do we have to go?" Asked someone the kid sitting at the back.

"YES! It is not optional." Mrs Mills replied. "So that is all the time we have to talk about this just remember to be on your best behavior."

Academic progress

"I was wondering do you know what your score is for maths?" Mr Scholes asked.

"Umm yes it is a 3p, that is my weakest academic score and I struggle a lot in maths," I replied.

"Ok how about your reading level."

"It is a 4b I am pretty proud of that score because I usually am not very good at reading and I can't find the time to read at home," I once again replied.

"That is very good Nicole," Mr Scholes said, "What is your writing score?"

"Writing is my strength and my score is 5b I am proud of that and love to do writing," Nicole explained.

"So how was last nights BINGO game?" asked Marry.
"Not to good, how was your baking night?" asked Marry's husband.
"Good, ok I think that is enough walking for a day. Lets go home."

A teen discussing a pocket money bonus with his/her parents.

"Ok, if you do extra chores around the house, for the next three weeks. We will double your pocket money." Mum explained to John.

"Well yes if you want more money you will have to do more jobs." Mum explained once again.
"Finneeeee I will do them!" John shouted.

Waimarino,
very cold,
activities everywhere,
sitting in the spa,
while the rain fell down,
we did all of the activities,
the blob was scary,
day over,
wonderful.

12 hour relay poem

As the cold chill started to disappear, we started to get ready for the run. The track didn't seem that long but running it was hard. Running no matter what the weather was no to bad because we were having fun together. As the day went on there were a few injuries along the way. One hour to go, people were starting to go slow, but we kept on trying to show that we were tough and strong and we could win the all along. But no we didn't 4th place we came.

12 hour relay

As I looked to the right of me I could see this big cloud of dust coming this way. I tried to warn people around me but no one listened they were more interested in running. My name got called to run next so I stood there looking at the big dust cloud wondering what to do. I had no idea I have never been in a situation like this before. When I came back around the conner to the finish the run.
Once I had finished I looked at the dust cloud, it was moving very slow but it was so close. As the cloud came onto the corse you could here people screaming. The cloud stopped! Things that looked like shadows started to walk out. All of a sudden the cloud disappeared, and the things that now look like green blobs, started murmuring. They then got there weapons out and started shooting everyone. The only surviver was Britney who was hiding in the bathroom toilet waiting for it to be over.

how to survive term four

Drug Reserch

This term we have been having our Life Education sessions. One of the topics we are learning about is drugs. Everyone in our class has made a presentation about one individual drug so that we can extend our knowledge. I made my presentation to a class member and they have given me feedback about my presentation below.
Success Criteria
- confidence when they deliver their presentation
- their knowledge is genuine
- information is in their own words
- no reading off the page, not too much text
- images match content
- visually appealing

Twelve hour relay Poem

12 hours of running as hard as you can.
2nd place is what we came last year, but we are going to beat that and come first this time.

Hot weather is hard to run in, but we still tried as hard as we can.
Our bodies were starting to ack towards the end of the day.
Up Up and away, you feel like you are flying higher then the sky, but actually you are just day dreaming while lying in the sun.
Running all day, it is not a game so don't just run around and play.

Refresh your self with a cold drink.
Eating helps keep your energy levels up.
Lie down and stretch your legs as the sun goes down you watch the clouds in the sky
At the end of the day you are happy it is over, but you wish that you could just stay for a little bit more.
You are proud of yourself of how well you have run, and you go to sleep.

Life Ed

On friday our class went to life Ed. Firstly We watched a movie about people who had experienced drugs and most of them regretted it. There faces were blurred out and there voices where slightly changed so we couldn't tell who they were. Next we talked about peer pressure, it is when your peers or friends pressure you into doing something, it could be something good or bad. They may have been pressured into doing a job. There are also bad ones like getting peer pressured into taking drugs. We also talked about GIB and GAP, GIB stands for greater impact on brain and GAP stands for greater addiction potential that means that it is easy to get addicted to. We also talked about WITS REACH, it stands for Walk away, ignore, tell someone, say no, give a reason. give an excuse, assertive, change the subject and humor. These are all ways of getting out of peer pressure that you don't want to do.

Give Advise

I found out my two friends smoke. I'm only 13. I don't know what to do. I am really confused. Please help.

Dear.....
Firstly if they offer you a cigarette just say no thanks. You could also tell them why you are not going to have a cigarette and try to convince them to stop smoking. You could also tell an adult or someone you trust about this and get them to try and talk to your friends.

Secondly you could ignore them and make new friends you are better to lose a friend then end up smoking. If they try to be friends with you still tell them why you are not there friend for e.g. I am not going to be your friend because I do not want to smoke, it is really bad and can cause an early death.

Thirdly you could call someone like What's up (0800 94 8787)you call these people when you are in trouble or are in a situation like this, they can help you with your problems and they will give you really good advise

Funeral

For my grandad's funeral I wore a black dress with some nice casual shoes.
For the funeral, we had to sit in certain seats, family were placed up the front and then close friends behind us. It started off with my nanna speaking about there life together, and then continued onto my mum and aunties, they all said one of there best memories and what they are going to miss about him. After that all of our family grabbed apart of the coffin and walked out of the building. Then we all went back to my nanna's house and ate some food and had a drink.

Disco

Last night there was a disco. This time there weren't as much people at the disco as normal I think it had something to do with aims practices and other sports on. The theme for the disco was corers. I didn't dress up as anything I just went casual. Jessica C, Jessica M and Paris H were dressed up as ninjas. There was a boy who was dressed as a secret agent, and there was another girl dressed up as a doctor. The disco seemed like it went on forever and ever but it was only 2 hours. We started to all get hot and thirsty so a whole bunch of us bought a drink and went outside. I gave my drink to Caitlin to hold and she shook it up so when I went back to get a drink it went everywhere. After that Paris, Jess, and Jess took off there face paint because it was getting to hot and it was uncomfortable. They spent about 15minutes in there and then it was time to go home, so they missed out on the end.

Scientists believe that they have found a small species of frogs that hears with its mouth. Gardiner's frogs are one of the smallest species of frogs in the world. Scientists found  that they have a special mouth that resonates with high pitched sounds made by other frogs. The frogs then transmite the sounds to their brain.

Analogy

Learning to walk is just like learning to read. The first step to learning to walk is rolling over, just like learning to read, where you will need to learn the alphabet they both provide your first steps to learning to do the things. Secondly you learn to sit up and with learning to read you need to learn to sound out verbs these are both similar because you are just starting to get into learning this and you are thinking of ways to escalate it. Next, you bum shuffle around the floor and with reading your next step would be learning how to read simple little words, they are similar because they are like walking and like reading they are close to completion but easier. Crawling around and learning to read sentences are the next steps they are both similar in a way because crawling is like walking but easier and learning sentences is your final step before actual reading. Your final step is to stand and walk around and for reading your final step is to read books they are both alike because you are now independent and know what you are doing.

Speech Animal testing

Imagine being taken to a place where you are locked up, with barely any room for movement, in a small cage. You are taken every once in a while to get your hair shaved off, and things rubbed into you skin that could make your hair never grow back, or it burns you and make your skin bleed. Maybe you could get something put into your eyes for a couple of weeks and you go blind. Good morning ladies and gentleman girls and boys. These are few of the things that happen to animals that are used for testing.

I love animals and have had many pets and if one of them got taken and put into a research lab it would almost kill me. If you saw you pet get taken away and then you find out two days later that they were dead caused by toxic fumes they had to breath in. How would you feel?

Animal testing has been used since the 1800’s. Louis Pasteur used chickens to develop his small test which saved countless lives, but with the times changing and technology ever advancing there is little need to continue to test on animals.
Every year nearly one hundred animals die in research laboratories at the hand of curios scientists who perform outdated and inaccurate tests that prove no benefit to humans or animals. Before the animals die, they are routinely burned, scalded, poisoned, starved, given electric shocks, addicted to drugs, subjected to near freezing temperatures, forced to inhale toxic fumes and driven insane. Their eyes are surgically removed, their brains and spinal cords damaged, and their bones broken. Despite all of this cruelty not a single disease has been cured through medical testing on animals. The overall adult cancer rate has risen in the past 40 years and a fatal heart attack strikes a person every 45 seconds. Drug testing on animals is inaccurate and does not benefit humans or animals at all. Animals including, dogs, cats, mice, rats, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, monkeys, owls, deer, sheep, llama, and cattle are commonly used in animal testing.

So what do the scientist do to make sure these animals have the finest quality of life? First they make sure they are comfortable enough by having several of them in one small cage. Then they physically and mentally damage them in the worst way possible. Once they have finished and are done using them the will dispose of them in a huge rubbish bin. Life for them is not fear and should not have to live like that they should be allowed to rome free until they reach an older age when they need caring and then have a loving family to look after them.

Imagine how these animals feel being shoved into cages and tested on. This is something that animals should not have to go through. Animal testing is not reliable and is very expensive. Animal testing is inhumane and now that there are alternatives to this there is no excuse for anyone to still use animal for testing human products. I suggest that governments ban animal testing, so that the world become a better and safer place for both animals and humans.

Spring poem

Sunny days are on their way,
flowers growing in the green green grass.
Spring time is the best of all not to hot and not too cold for us all.
Babies on the way as the animals begin to store away.
Spring is nice you better get some ice as the sun comes closer.
Leaves growing on the trees, flowers growing bigger and bigger,
picnics on the beach with a cool breeze around.
Sunny days are on there way as Spring begins to blossom.

Sunny days coming this way while we hang about near the roundabout.
People happy and playing about as the sun begins to shine on us all.
Rainy days no more it is time to get out and go to the store.
Interesting flowers growing through the hours
Not a single cloud in the sky as the animals jump about.
Going places as the sun follows you around.

Story

As Kodi ducked from the flying cookie pad, he saw where it was heading. As the cookie pad rolled down the hill Kodi thought  that he would be sneaky and act like it never happened. As the boys arrived at class they saw that Travis was telling Miss Mills. Miss Mills told them that at lunch they had to go down there and find it other wise they would pay for it. When they were down there they noticed three boys who were hiding in the bush with a scooter. Kodi and Matt frantically chased them

Angels

Self Defense.

Over the past day and a half all of the year eight girls did a self defense course. In this self defense course we learnt about our safety and how to protect ourself. We did a series of punches and couple of different types of kicks. We also found out about simple items that we could use as weapons.

Some of the easy weapons could be a comb, a pencil, spray bottles and also car keys. We got taught  the hammer punch which is where you hit the person in the face like a hammer your arm also looks like a hammer at the same time. We also got taught the simple punch which is just a normal punch you can use it in many different areas like the face, neck, stomach and the nuts.

We got taught three different types of kicks, the simple kick, the ballerina kick and the backwards kick. The simple kick is when you just kick, your foot has to be facing up and you are trying to kick with the ball of your foot. The ballerina kick is where your toes are arched like in ballet, this kick is used to kick into the grond area. The final kick is the backwards kick which is where you kick backwards the aim of it is so that if someone grabs you from behind you kick there shin and then stomp onto there foot so that they will let go of you and drop so you have enough time to run away and get help.

We got told about DNA. DNA is mucous, blood, hair, finger prints and lots more. If someone tried to kiss you then you would have DNA from where they kissed you. If you were in a situation where this happened then you would leave it there or wipe it into your top or spit it into a cup. You would do this because to find the person who did this the police would need to get some DNA. It is really easy to get some DNA. If you hit someone with a rock you would need to put the rock in your pocket and then take it to the cops so then they could find the person.

Later on we got told stories about little girls who have actually experienced this stuff and actually made there way out. Also there were other stories were the girls didn't survive. These thing happen all the time. People experience this stuff all the time. We got told that all of these older people who do it are cowards and it is sick how they are doing it to younger girls it proves that they don't have the guts so they go for little girl.

delayed gratification and the stanford marshmallow experiment

Inferencing

Felila was exhausted.
"Go Felila Go you are nearly there. Yay good job." Felila's mum cheered happily.
As felila sat in the car on the long trip home, she slowly fell asleep.

Russell was hungry.
"Mum whens lunch?"
"Soon," Russell's mum replied.
"Mum can I have a snack?"
"No lunch will be ready soon!" Russell's mum said with a slight angry tone to her voice.
As Russell's mum continued with cooking lunch, Russell snuck into his food stash that he has under his bed and ate it all up.

Troy was laying.
"Hey Tom lets go into the dairy and stuff a whole lot of lollies down our tops and then run out!" Troy explained. "Sure meet at six," Tom replied.
At six the boys walked down to the dairy and walked right to the back where all the lollies were kept they slowly stuffed them down there tops until they had no room left. They then ran out of the shop and down the road and into a bush. As the boys arrived home they noticed a cop car sitting in there driveway. "O my gosh this can't be good." The boys slowly said. As they walked in the door there he was standing right there in front of him a cop. "Did you or did you not just go and stell lollies from that dairy down the road?" The tall man with handcuffs  asked the boys. They slowly looked at each other and said No. But they all new they did.

Inference

Caine was addicted to computer gaming.
"Caine tidy your room!"
"In a minute," Caine replied.
10 minutes later.
"Caine tidy your room!!"
"Ok just let me complete this level."
20 minutes later
"GET OFF OF THE GAME NOW AND TIDY YOUR ROOM!"

Maia felt sick.
"Ahhh do I have to go to school today, I am not feeling well?" Maia asked.
"Yes you do you look fine."
As Maia made her way to school her face got greener and greener.

Josh was worried about being late for school.
"Mum Mum get out of bed muuuummmm."
As Josh's mum slowly got out of bed Josh kept looking up at the clock to see what the time was. It was like this everyday, his mum took as long as possible some time he thought she did it on purpose.

Homework 3 Fairy bread

Inferring

Matthew was lonely.
Matthew is a boy with dark brown hair, he wears baggy ripped pants and a sloppy shirt that he wears everyday. Matthew is generally by himself and found in an ally or on his way home from the video store. He doesn't like to go out much and stays as low profile as possible.

Kyle was excited about maths.
Kyle is very interested in his education. He always wears a tucked in collard shirt with red suspenders, he has to wear glasses because he doesn't have a very good eye sight. Every morning his favourite thing to do is get out his calculator. It is like his brain is on auto pilot and he can multi task and go swimming and do maths at the same time.

Connor was terrified of answering the phone.
As he walks towards the classroom he knows that his biggest nightmare is sitting right inside waiting for him to arrive.

Daniel Tammet

Daniel is a savant which is an artistic person with extremely good abilities. Savants normally have a disability. It is extremely rear to be savant there are only 52 in the world, none of them are like daniel though. Daniel has a very small disability where as the other 51 savants in the world have a bigger disability. Daniel is really good at math and also has a huge memory.
For several weeks daniel studied pi which goes on to infinity, he studied 1000 numbers per page. He then memorized them all and went and read them all out in his mind he got to 22,000 and then stopped.
Scientist find him very interesting and study him to find out how we can become like him and have such a big brain capacity.

Weekend Poem

As the weekend goes by,
I feel trapped inside with no fresh air,
just the smell of the claurine.
As we jump into the pool a shiver goes up my spin,
the temperature drops and I begin to swim.
I love the water I am in it nearly every day,
I really just like to splash and play.
The day went on forever even in the hottest weather.
Lunch is the best part of the day we went across the road for a play.
Kiwi yo is even better it really went well with the weather.
The day came to an end, so I went and hoped in bed,
can't wait for the weekend to come again I am getting ready to play.

Last two days

Over the past two days Miss Campbell was sick and we had a reliever called Mrs V. Miss Campbell still had set work for us and to add to that Mrs V had some extra work for us to do. First off she told us that she has an excellence list and to get our names on there we had to be quiet a lot and do lots of work.
Maths  Miss Campbell put some work on maths rotation tasks, and Mrs V, had some extra work for us.
Reading For reading we had to do our novel study and Read theory, and Mrs V had some work sheets for us to do.
We had these work sheets that we got to do when we had spare time. She had colouring ones, word searches and shapes that you had to cut out and stick together.

Bullying

I haven't experienced getting bullied.  But I think that a lot of it normally has something to do with jealousy or it is friends who have just got into a fight. When friends try to bully other friends they normally don't do it face to face they do it over a chatting website like Facebook or Skype. People do that because they do not want to do it face to face because it could get physical.

I think that bullying is just a way of having a go at someone because they have done something that you do not like. Bullying can turn out to be very serious and people can end up dead. Some people get told to go jump off of a bridge, so that is what they actually go and do.

43% of teenagers die from bullying ever year. I think that bullies should be given a warning and then if they continue to bully that same person they should talk to there parents about it and maybe involve the school in it and maybe even the principal. Bullying is something that happens lots and lots I think that it should come to a stop. Bullying is something that you don't know how to control it and people need to come to a solution.

fitness in the mornings.

For.
* It keeps you fit and active in the mornings.
* It gives us a break from working and we are sortive having a brain break.
* It is a good way to get fresh air and refresh yourself.
Against.
* A lot of us do not enjoy having to get into your P.E gear just for fitness which only goes for like 15minutes.
* It is really hard and it is not enjoyable.
* It can be boring doing it constantly every morning.
*In winter it is way to cold and kids shouldn't have to run because they could get sick.
*No teachers run with us so they do not know what it is like and a lot of us find that unfair

Things that annoy me

*My brother Travis annoys me because whenever he gets told to do something it gets done an hour later. I find my brother annoying because when I am on my computer he knows that if he asks to go on it, I get told that it is time to get off. Also when he is on the xbox and I tell him to turn the volume down he ignores me but instead he turns it up. Plus he has unusual out of the blue fits and breaks things.

*Another thing that annoys me is people talking fast. When you talk fast what is the point in it do you know that people can't understand you talking fast. Talking fast is not necessary I think that it proves you are nervous to speak or you just actually don't want people to hear what you are saying.

*The last thing that annoys me is bad hair days when you have those bits of hairs that just don't go the right way.

Tuesday, 6 August 2013

Bananas are better than Oranges

For.
*Bananas are an easy and quick to eat so then if you have other things to do then you only are wasting like 30 seconds eating an banana.
*Bananas dont need to be chopped up you can just peel it and then eat it where as with oranges you have to cut them up.
Against.
*Bananas are not nice because I personally don't like the taste of them.
*Bananas go rotten really easily so if you bumped them on something they go brown and if you dont eat them within 3 days they are rotten.
*Oranges are more filling so if you are hungry you are better off to eat the banana.

Augmented Reality

Augmented Reality

Augmented Definition
Augmented means to make something greater, more numerous, larger, or more intense.

Reality Definition
Reality that is something the is real or truly exists.

Augmented Reality Definition
Augmented reality or AR is an *enhanced version of reality.
(*Improved or better.)

Researchers and engineers are pulling graphics out of your television screen of computer screen and blending them into real world. This is called augmented reality or ar for short. It blurs the line between what’s real and whats on the computer by enhancing what we see, hear, smell and feel.

Augmented reality is changing the way we view the world or they way we see the world. So lets say you were walking down the street the ar which will eventually look like normal glasses, will appear and will *coincide with whatever you see.
(*Occur at or during the same time. )

Computer Gaming

Computer gaming is good for people.

For.
* It can be fun because it can be really competitive when you are playing against your friends.
*You can become very good at it and actually do it as a living.
* You are making your fingers mussily by moving them around lots when using the controller.

Against.
* You get unfit and fat
* You can get square eyes because if you stair at a screen for a long time it can damage your vision.
* It is not good for your health because you are stuck inside all day and not moving about.

Language

This week we are learning a language, we got split up into two different classes, at the moment I am  in Mandarin. We have learnt how to count up to ten and we have also learnt our phone numbers. We have six lessons that we need to do so far we have only done two. We are going to learn how to say our names, counting, saying simple sentences and we might even try some food. I am looking forward to learning more about Mandarin and the people themselves and what they eat.

Holidays

In the holidays I didn't do much apart from swimming. Right at the beginning of the holidays I had a three day swimming meet at Baywave. It was a really hard swimming meet because there were more than 200 people there and a lot of them were in my age group. In my age group there was about 50 girls. After all my races I would go and check what placing I was every time I was in the top 20. It was a really fun meet but there weren't many people from my swimming club and It was really hot and stuffy in there  so I always had to go out and get fresh air.

At the end of the holidays I had another swimming meet this time it was at Rotorua. This swimming meet was a lot easier because there wasn't as much people as the other swimming meet. This time there was 18 of us from my club, so when we were sitting on the bleachers it was really really squishy. In these races I didn't do as well and I didn't get any personal bests. My coach Paul was really happy with the turn but he wasn't so happy about my times. Apparently Rotorua pool is the hardest pool to swim in because it is a different type of water. The water is a lot thicker well that is what I have been told. Overall I still got in the top 5 for everything, next time I need to try a bit harder and get better results.

On the last day of the holidays I was still in Rotorua, I was staying in this flash hotel they have a swimming pool, gym, computers with wifi, bar and restaurant. On Sunday morning I got to wake up and go down stairs for a free bistro breakfast. After lunch my Dad, my brother and I got to go to Paradise Vally there were lots of animals like, lions, fish, horses, trout, alpakas and deer.

Term 2

Term 2 Overview
This term we have had lots of special events such as... camp, cross country, production and Interhouse soccer. My biggest highlight was defiantly Camp It was filled with lots of fun activities and awesome moments. My lowlight is the interhouse soccer, because in the finals when we were versing Rata, we lost. We were in a tie until we got a penalty and the other team scored the goal. I enjoyed cross country because when I was running I had a burst of excitement so that made me faster. In the end of it I came 36 which was much better compared to last years where I got 84. Finally there was production which has only just happened. I enjoyed watching it, but they had a few mistakes along the way. At the end so many people got sick and so many people still haven't came back. This term was really fun I enjoyed it heaps. I have improved on my cross country score from last year. I need to improve on writing more complex sentences.

The Production

This week it was the Tauranga Intermediate production, called a Most Triumphant Tale. Yesterday Tauranga Intermediate made there way up to Bay Court to watch the mates and pairs perform.
When we reached Bay Court we ended up standing there for about fifteen minutes until we finally get to go in. Once we got in there were heaps of seats and since I was towards the front of the line we were right down the front. Once it started we were eager to watch it. Since I was sitting next to Sharnae she talked for most of the thing.
The production was about two bands battling until there is a winner. One dimension was a lip singing group and Labyrinth wasn't Labyrinth had some bumps along the way but in the end they got it all sorted out for the compition to see who will win. In the end Labyrinth won.
I think one thing that annoyed me was star man coming on all the time and talking about the story I think that he came on a litte too much and he started to get up my nerves.

Homework P7

Physical activity and outdoors: Design your own challenge
Run Up and down the mount for one week

In the Christmas holiday's I stayed at the mount camping ground for about two weeks next to where Travis was staying and every second morning I would go around the mount. One morning I asked If I could run up and down to get fitter, and my Dad said yes, he told me that he and my brother would walk it and I could run.

I was thinking about how to pace it out so I said that I would run everything but the every second lot of steps on the way up and run down. I ended up running most of it because I took the gravel four wheel drive track. On the way up It was very hard but I was eager to make it to the top. Once I got about half way it had only been 10 minutes. For the last half my calfs felt like they were going to fall off which they didn't. In total on the way up it took me 16 minutes. I paused the timer at the top and stood and looked at the view for 5 minutes and then made my way back down.

On the way down I was thinking for an aim time and I came up with 10 minutes and for the total time about 30 minutes. When I was running down the gravel path it was really slippery so I had to go a little bit slower. Once I reached the other side where the sun was I felt like I was nearly there which I was. My final time for coming down was 12minutes and my total time overall was 28minutes which I was very impressed with. So I decided that I would do that for a whole week and see how much I improve and I will write it all down on a piece of paper.

TIMES:
Tuesday 28
Wednesday 24
Thursday 30
Friday 31
Saturday 25
Sunday 26
Monday 30

I think the reason why my times went up and down is because of the wether and some times the time of day and the amount of people that we there and getting in my way. I enjoyed doing it and it was really fun, I am going to do it again next year or the next time that I am there.

Persuasive Letter

Dear Milly,
I am here to persuade you to come and join swimming. I think that you should join swimming because everybody at one stage needs to learn to swim in life. I have been swimming for two years and I enjoy it lots now. There are heaps of different stages at our swimming club. We have four different types of groups. There is one for little kids who can't even swim yet, there is another for the people who can swim but not that confidently. Then we have a group which there are quite a few swimmers in this group is for the kids who can do 100meters none stop and are not competitive. The last group is the top group which I am in every 1 hour and 30 minute session the coach does a dry land set, and then he does heaps of different sets in the water that adds up to 3 or 4k. You should join Tauranga Swimming club because we have heaps of fun little meets like chocolate fish night, and club champs which is where you swim the fastest and try and come first in your age group to get trophies and medals. I think that you should join swimming because it is a fun and competitive experience.

Hockey isn't a very enjoyable sport and you can get injured very easily. I think that swimming is more enjoyable and fun to do. Also you get to go around the bay of plenty to heaps of meets, and sometimes the whole of New Zealand. Thats why I think that you should join swimming!!!

Homework A8

Academic Excellence: Design your own challenge
Create A Story at least 5 Chapters long.

Chapter One
As I stumbled to the ground in tears all I could hear was laughter. Oh maybe I should Introduce myself my name is Tom, I live in Iceland, Europe. I moved here not long ago because my Dad got a job here it was a very good deal so he couldn't turn it down. We packed our bags and left within five days, he didn't let me have a say in this at all so all I got to do was so good bye to all my friends and leave. Being the new guy here isn't easy all the kids are picking on me and calling me names. I haven't even gone to school yet, I hope the kids who live down my road don't go to the same school.

"Rise and shine it's the first day of school." My dad explained in a calm voice. As I grumbled out of bed I had a feeling that today was going to be a bad day, I knew that all the kids would pick on me. I know why they pick on me there are lots of reasons, it is just not fair. I am short and stubby, don't have all the latest gear and I am new.

Chapter Two
As I walked into the school gate a shiver went up my spine I knew that this was going to go down hill real fast. As I noticed a familier face I tried to avoid him, it was Peter he lives down my road he is one of the most annoying people I know. He isn't mean but there are a lot of other things wrong with him. Like his high pitched voice and his annoying allergies. I think that he wants to be my friend but if I talk to him I may get laughed at for hanging out with a guy like him. I need to try and find the right friends so then I can get a good reputation, and become the schools cool kid. I tried to look around for someone who I could make friends with. Just as I noticed a tall sporty looking guy, the bell went and everyone entered class.

I wasn't sure where to sit and what to do since I had never been to this school and I was the new guy. As I looked around the class for a seat that wasn't near Peter but just as I was about to sit in a seat the teacher walked in and told me to come up the front. As I turned around to say 'sure in a second.' a girl walked in and sat in my seat. The only seat left was right next to Peter in the most disgusting seat at the back of the class. As the teacher started introducing me to the class I turned and looked at the girl who took my seat she was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen, she had blond hair, blue eyes and she looked very charming.

Chapter Three
As I turned away from her I noticed that I had been staring with my mouth wide open, the whole class was laughing. When I walked to the back of the class to take a seat Peter gave me a present and told me that he made it last night for me. When I opened it up I saw all these tooth picks stuck together into the shape of a circle. As I tried to smile back at him and thank him the teacher yelled and told us wether we would like to share what we have been discussing, and of course Peter yelled yes. Miss Gollip told us to come up the front and bring what ever was in our hands so that is exactly what I did. I started to mumble what it was and then all of a sudden the Principal walked in. I was trying to hid the present from Peter behind my back but the Principal noticed it and said 'Peter always gives the new students at our school a gift he is a top A student and a great role model.' The children in the class started to giggle lightly.

"OK, back to work everyone." Miss Gollip Said. As I went back and sat down in my seat, I continued with my work. I kept on getting distracted by laughter in front of us it was the girls. I wanted to know wether they were talking about me or what they were on about.

Chapter Four
At the end of the day I noticed a whole bunch people walking across the road and there she was standing there giggling with her friends, I noticed that I should make a plan so that I can catch up with her, but then Peter came over. He asked me what I was doing after school and wether I wanted to catch up with him. I slowly said no I have to do something and then ran off the way that the group of girls went.

As I was running I was trying to think how could I figure out her name, and most of all how could I talk to her. I had one more problem I had no friends. I stopped in the middle of the road and looked around for a person that I could be friends with. Thats when I noticed a guy from class, he was very quiet and he seemed to not be bothered by me. I thought for a minute and then walked up to him and asked wether we could be mates, he said yes and then we walked off.

Chapter Five
The next day at school I walked up to the girls with my mate Jack. I asked her, her name and asked wether she would like to come hang out with us later and she replied with a yes and then gave me her number.

When we were walking out of school she ran up to me and said that I was really cool and wished me the best for my new life and that she would like to hang out some more and maybe get a little bit closer. I agreed and we all lived happily ever after...

Book review 3

Grace
11,422 people will go to heaven. Outsiders are sinners, so you shouldn’t go near them. Members of the church should obey the church elders and they must never lie. These are only some of the strict rules and beliefs that Grace’s church has.

It all starts at a barbecue held at Grace’s place. Her father starts asking questions and he gets into an argument. Then the sausages catch fire. Then the barbecue comes to an abrupt end.

Grace’s father always questions the elders, so as you can imagine, Grace does to. Asking questions that the elders can’t answer is considered a sin. The only way to stop Grace growing up to be a sinner like her father is to remove him, and that is what happens.

Grace will do anything to get her father back, even break the rules, which is exactly what she does.

This book follows Grace’s desperate and crazy attempts to reunite her family. It has a strong message which I think is presented well. While I was reading, I felt like she was me and it was all happening right now, right infront of me. I recommend reading this book it is a quite challenge book but very interesting and I would love to read more.

Homework G8

Design your own challenge: Donate clothing to the Salvation Army.

My mum and I thought that it would be nice to get ride of some of our clothing and give it to the Salvation Army. Later that day I grabbed one of those huge pink bags and started throwing all my clothes in it. My mum started to yell at me and say no do not throw all of your clothing only the ones that don't fit or you don't wear. I started going through all of my clothing nicely and trying on the stuff that I was not sure about. Once I had filled the bag I realized that my brother and parents have heaps of clothing too that they don't need. I asked my mum weather she had any clothing that she didn't need and said that she filled her bottom draw with clothes that she somehow needs to get rid of. Next I asked my brother and he told me that he will go through them soon, which he eventually did when I dragged him away from the television. When my dad got home I was going to ask him but he seemed very tired from work.
The next day before we took the stuff in my mum gave me a great idea, we could get rid of some of our old baby books and toys. So we spent an hour sorting out those and then made our way down to the Salvation Army. I wanted to hand it straight to them to see there reaction, and to see what the kids and other people in there thought of it but instead we slipped a card inside of one of the bags and then threw the in the huge box thing. The card said....

Hello,
We are donating this many items because we think it is going to a very good cause and we hope that you like our donation to you. We enjoy giving items to you because the people who buy them probably can't afford buying them straight from the shop it was originally sold from and have to come to you guys to buy the second hand version that we donated. We hope you enjoy the clothing and other items.
Yours Sincerely, the Hudsons.
